A Question of Time. In Search of Temporal Strategies for an Architecture of Transition
Conference date: September 26 and 27, 2024
Venue: Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine, Paris
In architecture, space occupies a central place to the detriment of time, which is too often neglected, even though it is a key factor in thinking about ecological, social and economic transition. In the face of the climate emergency, this symposium puts the question of time at the heart of the debate, as an essential element of architectural, urban and territorial projects. Rethinking our discipline through the time factor will enable us to reconsider architecture in terms of the temporal dynamics in which it is embedded, an essential condition for modifying its circumstances and mechanisms.
Rethinking our disciplines through the time factor, and not just through space, is a challenge that concerns all scales and calls for openness to other disciplines: economics, history, the arts, philosophy, sociology and anthropology. Given the scale of the problem, don't we need to look at things from different angles, and fundamentally rethink the way in which time shapes space?
