Urban and Spatial Planning – Theory and Concepts
Space, place, community, region, territory and networks are concepts employed in much of the academic literature across disciplines, including Architecture. In light of the relevance of those concepts, this module aims at providing an in-depth understanding of these key notions in geography and spatial planning. Through interactive discussions, reading and group presentations, students will engage with the core literature and contemporary debates in the field, laying the conceptual foundations for further work in the MAGEO programme.
The module will enable students to:
- differentiate between core notions of conceptual vocabulary used in geography
- illustrate their conceptual understanding through concrete examples
- distinguish between the academic/analytical and the political/normative understanding of the terms.
